About MIDA

The purpose of MIDA is to act as a single voice to represent and promote the interior design profession in the State of Maine.

Maine passed a law in 1993 regulating the use of the title Certified Interior Designer. To use the title, a person must have an education from an accredited school of interior design (minimum of a Bachelor degree), work approximately two years for a certified interior designer, and pass a national examination (the National Council for Interior Design Qualification examination – NCIDQ). The Maine State Board of Architects, Landscape Architects and Interior Designers oversees the registration of professionals to ensure that the health, safety and welfare of the public is protected.

MIDA’s Board spends many hours during the year to organize fundraisers and events for the design community. The meetings and events that are planned not only offer education to its members, it also offers networking opportunities for us to grow as design professionals. The money we raise helps to hire a lobbyist to watchdog our bill and keep our legislation viable for all designers in the state of Maine.

The Maine Interior Design Association has been an organized group for 15 years and we are going strong. With the addition of new members every year, we are proud to say the design community is growing stronger each year.
